Mathos for Android

A personal tutor whose brain is permanently a teacher. The app is the same one at mathos.amirj4m.com — installing it just gives it its own icon and its own window, without the browser around it.

The checksum is there so you can confirm the file arrived intact. On a phone you can safely ignore it; if you want to check, sha256sum mathos.apk should print exactly the line above.

Installing it

Android will warn you before installing anything that did not come from the Play Store. That warning is doing its job — it has no way to know whose file this is. This is what you will see:

  1. Tap Download the app. Your browser may ask whether to keep the file; keep it.
  2. Open the downloaded file. Android says something like “For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source.”
  3. Tap Settings on that message, and turn on Allow from this source for your browser. Then press back.
  4. Tap Install. Play Protect may offer to scan it — let it, it takes a second and says it found nothing.

You only have to allow the source once. Nothing here asks for permissions beyond notifications, which the app asks for only if you turn reminders on.
